About Me

Hey there and welcome!

I’m 36 years old and I live in Austin, TX where it’s hot pretty much all year round.   We always joke that we have 2 seasons – The Hot Season and The Hotter Season.  The people of Austin LOVE to be outside – even when the temperatures are at their hottest.  I wish I could be like that but I tend to do most of my exercising indoors.

I have a wonderful family.  You’ll hear about them in practically every post.  I love them tons – you’ll see.

My only child, Alexis. When you get it this right on your first try – you don’t need to keep going… I kid…I kid… She is truly wonderful though. Incredibly caring and smart and goal oriented. I respect her so much.

My wonderful husband, Tommy. We have a crazy-awesome love story.  There is no doubt that he and I are meant to be together.  I could write a book about our wonderful history.

I love this man more than words. My soul mate in every sense of the word.

We also have two amazing dogs – Abbey and Ranger.  They are brittany spaniels and practically run this house. I wouldn’t have it any other way.  There will be tons of doggy pictures too in the blog.  Hope that’s your thing. 🙂

Abbey is 11. She's got a wonderful personality! If she could talk - there is no telling what she'd say to us!

Ranger is a sweet sweet boy. He's very cuddly and loveable. He's 8 years old.

We are a very active family.  We are constantly on the go and have things planned.  We love vacations (although it seems like we don’t take enough) and just spending time together.  We all have our own hobbies but when we sit down just the 3 of us is when we are the happiest.

We are all trying to be more healthy and physically active.  We’ve ran a 10k together and Alexis and I have done a 5k together as well.  As soon as I work through this plantar fasciitis issue we are signing up for more. I LOVE them!

Currently I’m on a quest to lose 100 lbs.  It sounds like a lot but it’s totally doable.  Losing this amount will put me in the healthy range for my body type and height. Looking at my bmi right now makes me cry. It’s got to change – immediately.

Soon I will have “before” and “after” pictures but until then you get to live with just the before pictures.
As of 9/25/2011 I’ve lost 11 lbs. (I’ll change this number weekly on weigh-in days.)

I am not following a diet plan by any means. Diets are not long lasting. What I’m doing is changing my way of life and reconditioning myself to think differently about food and balanced meals.   I eat what I want but I do it with control – both portion and self. Retraining yourself like this takes time and I know that what I’m doing is NOT a quick fix but rather a long term change.

To aid me in my journey I’m using SparkPeople for their calorie counting tool and their fitness tracking. They are fantastic and they are free!

Confession: This is not my first bought without weight loss.  About 6 years ago I started along the same journey – just as serious as I am now. I was successful in losing 50lbs over 6 months and I kept it off for about a year until I allowed myself to fall back into the same habits.  What’s different now? Back then I didn’t consider it a lifetime change.  Now I am smart enough to know that it is.  This time I will not allow myself to fail.

You’ll see some food issues come up with me over the course of writing. I am dealing with those but not willing to make them so public right now. They are difficult to confront but I am confronting them – little by little.

Thanks for being here!
